A Day In Cliche
It's as clear as mud: It's always darkest just before the dawn. Before throwing in the towel, it was time to circle the wagons. God helps those who help themselves, so I knew it was time to put my nose to the grindstone. "Grin and bear it," I told Yours Truly, "this is where the rubber hits the road.
"Life is what you make of it," said the little voice in my head. "Sometimes you're the hammer, and sometimes you're the nail." I set my jaw and hunkered down. It was now or never. Before I got ahead of myself, I thought, "Now don't go off half-cocked. Don't be putting the cart before the horse."
Then the lighbulb went on. The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence, but you have to make hay while the sun shines. I kicked myself in the butt, pulled myself up by the bootstraps, tightened my belt, and got up on the wrong side of the bed. I was off and running before my feet hit the floor; I was on cloud nine! I was ready to rock and roll. Then it dawned on me - a day late and a dollar short - that you have to walk before you run. That burst my bubble, and you can bet your bottom dollar on that!
The well had run dry. Why bang my head against the wall? Then it hit me like a ton of bricks. "The writing's on the wall - some days are better spent in bed."
Tomorrow's another day.
